Global Networking Services and specifically the Operations Sustainment division is responsible for Post Incident remediation of Live Site emergencies, device analysis, and network remediation ensuring production services are delivered consistently to all customers.

Due to the complexity and size of the network, Sustainment engineering is a dedicated team focusing on specific network & security device maintenance, remediation and network support-ability.

New advances in network topologies, devices and configurations require a strong commitment ensuring maintenance and upkeep can be completed in a timely and efficient manner. This effort ensures that the on-line services Microsoft provides to its customers can be consistently provided.

The key to Microsoft’s success in this area is providing the correct amount of resources, engagement methods and flexibility to react with the ever changing technologies, security vulnerabilities and challenges that are changing rapidly

We are looking for a seasoned network professional with large enterprise experience that can help us take our service to the next level in terms of security, scalability, reliability, and performance. This position requires an individual that is highly motivated and self-directed and who can partner with multiple online business groups, senior managers, and senior network engineers.


Roles & Responsibilities


​Diagnose and correlate complex network problems, identify root causes and develop automated remediation strategies

- Audit, maintain and drive enforcement of established quality practices across all network disciplines (core, engineering, operations)

- To manage the increase in volume/ growth, KI hit list remediation, focus on upgrade & correction on network & security configuration.

- Success is demonstrated in this role by:

Gaining a deep understanding of the network & security solutions the team manages

Troubleshooting service issues quickly and efficiently to root cause

Communicating effectively with the team and customers

Owning the service and making and implementing recommendations for improvement.

- Participate and directly contribute to Strategic/Business planning inclusive of a Quality foundation and framework

- Provide detailed analysis of the network environment, risks (equipment failure rate), defects and vulnerabilities. Apply this analysis to lead & drive measurable improvements across all layers of the network

- Drive the development, monitoring, measurements and improvements around the quality of service provided by Network Engineering

- Evaluate and determine the potential risk, defects, trends and vulnerabilities from rapid scale of the environment and ensure network agility without compromising quality

- Generate statistical, meaningful, actionable and consumable quality charts, and regular scorecard generation exposing core KPIs around network quality

- Work collaboratively within the Org. and across all lines of business, ensuring adherence to established standards and procedures.

- Rationalize and optimize operations activities aimed at reducing TCO for Network Management.

- Perform trending and analysis for chronic issue resolution related to network infrastructure

- Consult with operational, implementation, engineering and security groups on projects and technologies

- Drive a culture of continuous improvements and scale to operational processes and technology • Develop and author requirements and automation techniques to improve efficiencies, enable scale and reduce costs over time


Skills & Qualifications


​• At least 5 years of Operational network & security experience in a high availability environment

- The candidate must be capable of Operating, Managing, Troubleshooting and Deploying of Network & security solutions with little or no assistance.

- Demonstrated skills developing business requirements for improvement and automation

- Working knowledge of Cisco, Juniper, F5, and Citrix product lines

- Advanced programming or scripting skills and experience

- Exceptional troubleshooting, event correlation and trending skills

Strong analytical and strategic planning skills:

- Experience with Network Management practices, procedures and tools

- Strong interpersonal communications skills, effective writing skills

- Experienced ITIL and MOF based process development and implementation skills

- Candidate must have excellent Knowledge of MPLS, OSPF, and BGP protocols

- Candidate must have a good foundation in Operation, managing and supporting network security solutions (firewalls, IDS/IPS, anti-DDoS, Authentication services)

Leadership skills to drive and influence others across multiple organizations:

- Working experience of Security fundamentals

- Proven problem resolution, judgment, negotiating and decision making skills along with excellent written and oral communication skills.

- Broad-based skill set across software, hardware, networking and internet technologies including enterprise network design• Must be able to write execution & troubleshooting steps on SOP & MOP. • Advanced programming or scripting skills and experience


Experience Required


The ideal candidate will have experience in Network & Security Engineering and Automation in an Operations environment at a global enterprise scale. The candidate should have a passion for creating, sustaining, and improving emerging and ground breaking techniques to drive and sustain the highest quality network and are looking for an opportunity to support a growing network at a Global scale.

In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for implementing critical changes to network & security devices through development, automation and programmatic solutions aimed at streamlining Network Device Management. This position will also contribute to key programs ensuring quality remains a core tenet of Network Operations and sustaining a quality-first culture across the organization. This person will ensure the services delivered by Networking and the expectations of its customers are always in synch through the management of succinct workflow processes and the constant association, correlation and causal analysis of key data points. This candidate will utilize well established quality practices (i.e. six sigma, lean, etc..) in ensuring we are consistent in delivery quality across all layers of the network especially as we scale.

- Expert-level knowledge and experience in the network & security field and ability to design and troubleshoot solutions.

- Familiar with debugging large-scale systems

- Experience with data analysis skills and statistical tools

This is a key position that may require frequent contact with Managers, Directors, Sr. Directors, or GMs within Microsoft. As such, the successful candidate is a dynamic leader with a track record of identifying and developing strong relationships, assessing KPI driven services and developing improvements based on data, and directly contributing to successful internal and external partnerships for the team and the larger organization


Basic Required Qualifications


Expert level knowledge of at least one or more of the following:

- Excellent knowledge of Routing and Switching protocols and principles with extensive experience with Cisco and Juniper products

- Expert-level knowledge and experience in the network & security field and ability to operate and troubleshoot solutions.

​ • Candidate need to have good knowledge of Firewall, CISSP, Intrusion Detection & Prevention, IDS, IPS, Arbor, Cisco ACS, Juniper, SRX, NSM, Netscreen, Aruba, Network, TippingPoint, Infrastructure, Hosted Applications, Juniper, Cisco, Internet Service Provider, VPN, ACL.

- Expert level knowledge of Network and Packet analysis and capture methods and technologies

- Strong analytical and strategic planning skills

- Exceptional troubleshooting, event correlation and trending skills

- Strong knowledge of Application load balancing including experience with F5 & Citrix products

- Experience in developing network & security hardening procedures, best practices, config remediation and policy implementation

- Familiar with debugging large-scale systems

- Experience with data analysis skills and statistical tools

- Power Shell, Perl, Bash, Python • Database and Data analysis experience, SQL Server is a plus
